THE OLDEST PART OF A TREE TRUNK IN THE WORLD

We had to put an attractive feature in the premises of the restaurant. There is a part of a tree trunk fitted in a glass display which is one of the oldest in the world. It is a type of wood called Swamp Kauri from New Zealand. This old wood maintained its quality despite the fact that it was buried for thousands of years in soil silt and mud where it had been perfectly preserved for nearly 50 thousand years. The Kauri tree is considered a conifer although it has no needles. The shape and color of its leaves vary depending on the age of the tree. The Kauri was one of the biggest trees in the world. It is marked by a huge trunk (16 meters) from the roots to the crown without changing its shape. Its height reaches over 50 meters. Cutouts of the trunk are placed in a glass display at the entrance of the restaurant which is about 47 thousand years old.
